The selected candidate will partner with key business and functional leaders to help Battelle grow, delivering targeted marketing messages to help the business drive results, and attract and retain the talent needed to drive this growth.

This position is located in Columbus, OH and is a direct report to the President and CEO.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a senior marketing and communications role, with a strong background in brand management, digital marketing, and corporate communications. They should possess excellent leadership skills, be able to inspire and engage employees, and have a strong understanding of ESG principles.

Key Responsibilities:
• Media Relations/External Affairs: Oversee reputation management, proactive storytelling, thought
leadership positioning, and media inquiries. Manage social media presence and community,
government and other stakeholder relationships.
• Critical Incident Communications/Issues Management: Lead crisis communication planning and
response, including post-event management.
• Employee Engagement: Lead internal communications across all channels to inform, inspire, and
provoke action. Oversee executive communications, manage special events, and promote employee
engagement through a variety of channels and activities.
• Marketing/Marketing Communications: Position the organization for growth and partner with
business development and sales teams to exceed their targets. Ensure brand compliance and
governance, manage visitor experiences, oversee marketing campaigns, including local, national,
and digital advertising and creative efforts.
• Digital Communications: Manage the company's online presence, including websites, blogs, and
microsites. Oversee customer experience initiatives and measure marketing performance.
• Change Management: Develop strategies, secure stakeholder buy-in, and manage communications with
internal and external audiences.
• Environment, Social, Governance: Oversee reporting processes, annual report preparation, and
company positioning for competitive advantage and risk avoidance.
• Team Operations: Coach and mentor team members responsible for employee communications,
marketing communications, media relations/social media, and digital communications.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, journalism, public relations, public affairs,
or other relevant discipline.
• 15+ years of proven experience in leading the corporate communications, marketing or external
affairs function in a large company or preeminent science & technology institution.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills; including the tact and
diplomacy necessary to deal with all levels of staff and the public.
• Ability to build, lead, and inspire a high-performing, diverse team.
• Ability to anticipate issues, respond to crises, and control the narrative.
• Experience in change management and driving enterprise agendas.
• Strategic thinking and ability to define and execute marketing strategies.
• Experience in managing external stakeholders and building the company's reputation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
